Remote file sharing in VFX has always been a high-wire act: cost, speed, and reliability pull against each other. Picture a critical project with colossal files and a looming deadline, stuck behind a sluggish file-sharing pipeline. Over the years, I’ve tried nearly every option out there. AWS can do everything, at a cost that escalates fast. Rsync needs dedicated servers and adds too many points of failure. Dropbox and Google Drive are fine for personal use and crumble at professional scale.
That’s when, at SIGGRAPH, the big annual convention for the VFX and 3D industries, I stumbled onto the Suite Studios booth. After venting about my frustrations with existing post-workflow tools, the team walked me through their platform, and I decided to give it a real shot. A few months later, I retired my old workflow and put Suite Studios to the test on one of the most anticipated rap music video projects of the year.

In my typical fashion, I decided to stress-test Suite Studios on a large-scale project. I set up redundancies in case something went wrong (I always do), and we never touched them. We were working on Tyler, The Creator’s “Noid”, a music video that became one of the most acclaimed rap releases of the year. The stakes were high, and the workflow demands were real.
Our team was 8 to 10 VFX artists collaborating remotely, deep in EXR renders: massive uncompressed image sequences, thousands of frames per sequence. I needed transfers to run in the background on their own, so the team could stop hand-compressing and uploading files to Google Drive.

Final Thoughts
Suite Studios removed the problems that used to slow our remote collaborations. Other tools have their strengths, but none gave us this combination of speed and reliability on a project that couldn’t afford a failure.
